Gamescom: Behind the Scenes with the Gambit Team
This summer saw the return of Gamescom 2025 in Cologne, Germany—the world’s biggest celebration of gaming in all its forms, from cosplay and tabletop to retro and cutting-edge video games—and our own Jason Robar was there to take it all in.
Record-Breaking Event
357,000 attendees from 128 countries (up from 335,000 last year!)
1,568 exhibitors across 233,000 square meters of space—Gamescom keeps growing
72 million people tuned into Opening Night Live, nearly doubling last year’s viewership
The halls were so massive it could take 30+ minutes just to cross from one end to the other!
Cosplay, Merch, and Crowds
Gamescom is massive. We’re talking entire halls filled with licensed merchandise, endless cosplay, and more than 350,000 fans from around the world. Jason described it as “part GDC, part PAX—only bigger.” By opening day, the crowds were shoulder-to-shoulder, buzzing with excitement.
A Peek at the Games
Jason had the chance to check out new titles from across the industry like Hollow Knight: Silksong, Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight, and Silent Hill f, but the real highlight was sitting down at the Hans im Glück booth (the folks behind Carcassonne). Not only did he play their upcoming card battler Duel for Cardia—he scored a win against their CEO on his very first try!
Convention Life, German Style
Of course, it wouldn’t be Gamescom without bratwurst, currywurst, and a good German beer. Between the massive expo halls and back-to-back meetings, quick breaks with fries and a pint kept the energy high.
Why It Matters for Gambit
Events like Gamescom are about more than just games—they’re about connections. From catching up with publishers to seeing how fans respond to new ideas, it’s an amazing opportunity to keep building Gambit’s future.
We’re excited to take everything we learned back into development—and can’t wait for the day Gambit has its own booth, its own cosplay, and its own fans repping their favorite factions at conventions like this.
